Board Meeting Agendas & Minutes
7/09 10/09 Agenda/09/09 Minutes 8/09 11/09 Agenda/10/09 Minutes
The Winnebago County SWCD is currently looking for candidates to serve as District Board Members. Concerned citizens in Winnebago County can help conserve natural resources by serving on the District Board.
Board members are responsible in establishing soil and water conservation policy for the district, assess resource needs, and develop strategies to address these needs. The district provides land users with technical assistance, develop programs to address local natural resource problems, and provide quality conservation education to children and adults.
Some of the major issues at this time include: land use changes and urban encroachment, conservation programs such as the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP), Conservation Security Program (CSP), Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program (WHIP), Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP), Carbon sequestration program, and the state Cost-share Practice Program (CPP). Other concerns include residue management and nutrient management, erosion from both cropland and construction sites, education of natural resources and their importance, and improving water quality throughout the Rock River Valley.
If elected, board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings, which are currently held on the last Tuesday of every month. They are responsible for developing district policies and programs and provide guidance on program implementation. They are expected to participate in district programs and activities, and promote them in the community.
Board members are elected to a two year term. The Election of directors will take place on January 29, 2010 at our annual meeting, with the term starting in March. If these issues and programs interest you, and you would like to consider running as a director candidate, contact one of our current directors or the district office at (815)965-2392, x. 3. If you are not interested in becoming a director, but would still like to be involved, we also have “associate” directors that come to meetings regularly and offer input and guidance.
